The 2026 Federal A playoff has reduced the race for the second promotion place to eight clubs and four ties. First legs are scheduled for 8 November and returns for the 15th. Cipolletti, Alvarado, Olimpo and Gimnasia de Chivilcoy hold the top four positions in the seeding; they therefore close at home and advance if a tie finishes level on points and goal difference.
The first pairing takes Cipolletti to Salta to face Juventud Antoniana. The Río Negro club enter this stage after losing the decision for the first promotion place, won by San Martín de Formosa, and receive a second route to Primera Nacional. Juventud survived the earlier playoff rounds and must build an advantage in the opening match before travelling to La Visera de Cemento.
Alvarado meet Sarmiento de La Banda. The Santiago del Estero club host the first leg and the Mar del Plata team decide the tie at the José María Minella. The series links two distant football centres and adds a logistical element to the sporting challenge. Alvarado hold the sporting advantage; Sarmiento need to win at least one match or finish with a favourable aggregate margin to avoid elimination through equality.
Olimpo face Kimberley in a tie with a strong Buenos Aires provincial identity. The opening chapter takes place in Mar del Plata and the conclusion in Bahía Blanca. Both have travelled demanding paths, but Aurinegro retain the protection of higher seeding. Kimberley must control risk at home without turning the need for an advantage into disorder; Olimpo must manage the series without simply waiting for a draw.
The fourth tie matches Douglas Haig with Gimnasia de Chivilcoy. Pergamino hosts the first leg and Chivilcoy the return. Gimnasia have the sporting advantage and Douglas must break that equation. Geographic proximity reduces travel fatigue compared with other pairings, although regional familiarity and travelling support can increase intensity in two stadiums accustomed to high-pressure football.
The rules shape every strategy. A level aggregate is not enough for the clubs seeded fifth to eighth: if points and goal difference are equal, the higher side advances. Juventud Antoniana, Sarmiento, Kimberley and Douglas Haig therefore need some initiative, particularly at home. The four winners move into the fifth stage, still some distance from promotion because more elimination rounds remain.
This stage captures the territorial and competitive difficulty of Federal A. It includes clubs from Río Negro, Salta, Santiago del Estero and three parts of Buenos Aires province, with long travel and minimal margins. Previous standings provide real protection but cannot solve a poor first leg or ninety adverse minutes. Between 8 and 15 November, eight projects compress their seasons into 180 minutes; four preserve the possibility of joining San Martín de Formosa in the 2027 Primera Nacional.
