Argentinos Juniors turned a narrow victory into a result of enormous importance for the end of the season. The 1-0 win over Independiente Rivadavia at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium, in round 14 of the Clausura, took the club to 57 points in the annual table. It drew level with Boca, which remains first solely because of goal difference.

The outcome carried two rewards for the La Paternal side. Besides keeping it firmly in the continental qualification race, it secured a place in the Clausura playoffs. Argentinos shares the lead in Zone B and enters the final two rounds in a strong position, but also with the responsibility of protecting a campaign that has established it among the year's most consistent teams.

The annual table now presents a compressed race whose consequences extend well beyond a symbolic lead. Boca and Argentinos have 57 points, while Rosario Central follows immediately on 56. The first three places lead to the Copa Libertadores, although the final allocation will also depend on tournament champions and any redistribution of berths established by the regulations.

For Independiente Rivadavia, the defeat sharply reduced the room for manoeuvre. The Mendoza team remains on 53 points, four behind the leaders with only six available. A mathematical chance survives, but its more realistic priorities are to secure another international qualification and recover ground in its Clausura zone, where results are still required to enter the knockout phase.

Argentinos must now sustain its level both away and at home. It first visits Atlético Tucumán and then hosts Huracán. Boca, its direct rival in the annual standings, plays the Superclásico against River at La Bombonera before also finishing at home against Defensa y Justicia. Every point will influence both Clausura seeding and access to continental competition.

Rosario Central adds a third source of pressure to the contest. Sitting on 56 points, the Rosario club is only one behind the joint leaders and can exploit any mistake. That proximity prevents Argentinos from treating its arrival at the top as a finished achievement: beating Independiente Rivadavia created an opportunity, but the remaining rounds will determine who converts it into a concrete advantage.

El Bicho therefore reaches the decisive stretch with two certainties: its playoff place is secured, and its own results can keep it inside the Libertadores positions. Goal difference still favours Boca, so matching its points is not enough to occupy first place. The challenge is to combine ambition with consistency and transform the momentum from La Paternal into a finish that rewards an excellent year.
