Clausura round 16 began with two results that have already changed the shape of Zone B. River beat Aldosivi 2-0 in Mar del Plata and Gimnasia La Plata defeated Belgrano 2-1. Thirteen matches remain from Friday through Sunday to complete the regular phase, settle the final round-of-16 places and order an annual table that allocates international qualification.

River needed patience to break relegated Aldosivi. Lucas Beltrán converted a penalty in the 76th minute and Ángel Correa secured the 2-0 score in added time. The team finished on 26 points and are strongly placed to retain fourth, which provides home advantage in the round of 16. Gimnasia struck early through Lucas Janson and Agustín Auzmendi, before Alcides Benítez reduced the deficit for Belgrano.

Friday contains six matches. Barracas Central host Racing at 15:00. San Lorenzo-Platense, Independiente-Deportivo Riestra and Unión-Vélez begin together at 19:15 and carry much of Zone A's qualification pressure. Tigre face Sarmiento and Banfield meet Atlético Tucumán at 22:00. Teams must process simultaneous results without surrendering their own initiative.

Saturday opens at 15:00 with the Mendoza interzonal derby between Gimnasia and Independiente Rivadavia, alongside Talleres-Estudiantes. Argentinos Juniors-Huracán, Rosario Central-Estudiantes de Río Cuarto and Boca-Defensa y Justicia start at 17:30. Zone A leaders Instituto, on 33 points, finish the day at 22:00 against Newell's, who are still chasing a place.

Only Central Córdoba-Lanús remains on Sunday, at 19:30. Almost every relevant combination will be known by then and Lanús will understand the position available. The visit of Pope Leo XIV forced the round forward and compressed the calendar, giving each previous result immediate influence over the bracket. The final match receives complete information, but also the pressure of having no later opportunity to correct failure.

Zone A has Instituto, Boca, Vélez, Defensa y Justicia and Lanús qualified. Newell's, Gimnasia de Mendoza, Independiente, San Lorenzo, Unión and Platense contest three places. Rosario Central, Argentinos Juniors, Gimnasia La Plata, River, Belgrano and Barracas Central are through from Zone B; Independiente Rivadavia, Sarmiento and Huracán fight for the final two. Tiebreakers and final seeding make every goal difference significant.

The schedule turns four days into a sequence of decisions. Early teams can apply pressure; later ones possess clearer information but less time to correct failure. The eleven qualifiers can shape the bracket and protect resources without losing rhythm. Everyone else faces a final compressed into ninety minutes: the regular season offers one last opportunity, after which there will be no points to recover, only direct elimination.
