The decisive action came in the second half when Gimnasia y Tiro were awarded a penalty. Nahuel Galardi saved Lautaro Gordillo’s initial attempt, but the officials ordered a retake because the goalkeeper had not kept one foot on the goal line.
The decision prompted an immediate Maipú protest and raised the tension. Enzo Pérez and Matías Viguet were sent off during the complaints, a double punishment that left the visiting side severely restricted for the closing stage.
Gordillo took responsibility again and converted the second attempt. The goal established the final 1-0 score and turned a disputed play into three valuable points for El Albo, who reduced the gap to the qualifying places.
The victory keeps Gimnasia y Tiro in the fight to enter the promotion playoffs as the tournament reaches a stage of increasingly narrow margins. Their next fixture is away to Temperley, while Maipú must recover from a defeat that also brought disciplinary consequences.
