Talleres began the 2026 women’s Clausura with a 1-0 defeat by Ferro Carril Oeste. The opening-round match was played on Monday 27 July at the Dr. Santiago Leyden training ground in Pontevedra and was decided by an early action that forced the Córdoba side to chase an equaliser for almost the entire game.
Sarah Mirr scored the only goal after seven minutes. Ferro protected that margin until the final whistle, while Las Matadoras failed to find the finish that would change their opening result. The narrow score kept the match open, but the visitors’ response was not enough to recover even one point.
Leandro Iglesias started Daniela Pontel; Ahelín Piña, Agustina Aguilera, Giuliana González and Stephanie Tregartten; Agustina Vargas and Julieta Mozejko; Brisa Jara, Romina Núñez and Catalina Primo; and Juana Fonseca. The line-up represents the base selected to begin a semester in which Talleres must rebuild consistency.
The result interrupts the momentum the team established in the Apertura. Talleres finished fourth with 26 points from 15 matches, recording six wins, eight draws and only one defeat. They scored 21 goals and conceded 10, figures that had set a high competitive platform in their first season in the top division.
The Clausura’s start also coincides with squad movement. Jocelyn Briceño and Pilar González have left the club, which is searching for new players to strengthen Iglesias’s group. The need does not stem only from the 1-0 loss in Pontevedra, but from maintaining depth through a tournament in which their previous performance has raised expectations.
Las Matadoras will again play away in matchday two, this time against SAT. The next fixture offers an immediate test of how the team processes the early goal, the subsequent lack of a finish and the adaptation of a squad in transition. Ferro, by contrast, already have three points and a concrete opening advantage.
