Argentina’s men’s volleyball team began the South American Cup with a 3-0 victory over Bolivia in Cochabamba. The result gave Damián Arredondo’s side a positive opening and its first win in Group A.
Argentina is contesting the tournament with a squad composed mainly of young players, several of whom have been involved in the senior national-team structure. The decision creates international minutes for a generation seeking to broaden the team’s options without interrupting the main group’s specific preparation.
The established players continue building towards September’s Olympic qualifying tournament, which Argentina has already reached through the rankings. Brazil is in a similar position, so the two regional powers are using the South American Cup to assess alternatives and preserve competitive depth.
Group A also features Peru and Chile, Argentina’s next opponents on Thursday and Friday. The top two teams progress to Saturday’s semi-finals, with the final scheduled for Sunday. Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela and Paraguay make up the other group.
Arredondo has setters Federico Arquez and Lucas Astegiano; opposite Pablo Denis; outside hitters Iñaki Ramos, Ignacio Luengas, Lucas Conde, Federico Debonis, Samuel Guidi and Leandro Klaczynski; middle blockers Gustavo Maciel, Imanol Salazar, Agustín Ojuez and Iván Pavón; and libero Santiago Arroyo.
The 3-0 provides an opening result without requiring premature conclusions about a squad under evaluation. Peru is the next test, another opportunity to share responsibilities, maintain competitive rhythm and move closer to one of the two semi-final places.
