Emiliano Martínez's injury will force Lionel Scaloni to alter a position that had appeared beyond debate in Argentina's national team. The goalkeeper underwent successful surgery after suffering a bone injury to his jaw and is expected to remain out for roughly six weeks. His absence rules him out of the November window and creates a contest combining experience, current form and long-term potential. The episode deserves a broader reading: its importance comes not only from the headline fact, but also from the competitive moment, the decisions it forces and the way it shapes the immediate path of everyone involved.

The injury occurred in a collision during Chelsea's match against Everton. With Dibu recovering, Argentina will host Uruguay at La Bombonera on November 13 and Costa Rica at the Mario Alberto Kempes stadium on November 17. The proximity of those friendlies requires the coaching staff to review the hierarchy without disturbing a structure in which the world champion is both a sporting and emotional reference. The sequence explains the process rather than merely the outcome. Every choice altered what followed, so the order of events is essential to understand why the story eventually acquired this sporting weight.

Gerónimo Rulli retains the advantage of knowing Scaloni's cycle and having responded when required. The 34-year-old entered late in the 7-0 win over Burkina Faso, while his most recent start for Argentina came in the 3-0 victory against Iceland before the last World Cup. His concern is continuity: since joining Manchester City, he has appeared only in the League Cup match against Norwich. That passage contained much of the tension. Execution, timing and response came together there, three elements that separate a decisive action from a simple collection of facts within the larger development.

Juan Musso faces a similar situation. The Racing academy graduate has extensive European experience, but the 32-year-old has not played for Atlético Madrid this season. His latest Argentina appearance was the 2-0 friendly victory over Honduras on June 6. Familiarity with the group and senior experience therefore have to be weighed against a lack of recent competitive rhythm. What happened afterwards is also part of the story. Managing an advantage, correcting a weakness or preserving a plan after the context changes requires a collective reading that a final score does not always reveal.

Santiago Beltrán supplies the youngest option and the strongest recent continuity. At 22, he became River's starting goalkeeper after Franco Armani's departure and arrives with weekly competition. He has also experienced the senior setup: he accompanied the squad at the last World Cup as a precaution because of a Martínez injury before being released. A call-up would combine immediate form with development. The competition format magnifies those consequences. One performance can change positions, create an opportunity or close a route, which is why the result has to be interpreted through both the standings and the schedule.

Walter Benítez completes the group under consideration. The 33-year-old from Chaco, formerly of Quilmes, Nice and PSV, earned Crystal Palace's starting job after Dean Henderson's injury. He has made six consecutive starts and kept three clean sheets. That form could bring him back into the discussion, although his inclusion remains a possibility rather than an announced decision. The assessment must remain within the documented evidence. Names and numbers provide precision, but the analysis becomes more useful when it separates confirmed facts, possibilities that remain open and conclusions that cannot yet be advanced.

Scaloni must determine whether to prioritize national-team familiarity, recent minutes or a balance between the two. Rulli, Musso, Beltrán and Benítez arrive from different circumstances, and no replacement has yet been confirmed. Dibu's absence does not redefine the long-term role, but it provides a meaningful test of Argentina's depth before two friendlies designed to refine the side and assess responses. The next commitment will provide a fuller measure. What was gained or lost already belongs to this round; the new challenge is to turn the experience into continuity, learning and another competitive response that can be verified.
