Gimnasia y Esgrima de Jujuy protected their lead in Primera Nacional Zone B with a 2-1 comeback against Güemes de Santiago del Estero. The matchday 22 fixture was played at Estadio 23 de Agosto and forced the home side to rebuild the contest after falling behind in the opening minutes.
Güemes landed the first blow after nine minutes. Juan Sánchez Sotelo finished the Santiago side’s move to make it 1-0 and shift the pressure onto the leaders. Gimnasia could not change the score before half-time and had to seek a complete recovery in the second period.
The response arrived 20 minutes after the restart. Cristian Menéndez scored the equaliser and brought El Lobo back into the game. From that point, the Jujuy side continued to chase all three points instead of settling for a draw that would add to their total without fully protecting their advantage at the top.
Octavio Bianchi completed the turnaround in the 34th minute of the second half. His goal made it 2-1 and converted a difficult start into another victory in front of the home crowd. Gimnasia’s two goals came within a fourteen-minute spell, when the match demanded enough accuracy to turn a response into a result.
The three points keep Gimnasia as the sole leaders of Zone B. The consequence is larger than one isolated win: the team overcame a deficit, defended its position and again showed an ability to settle a tight contest in its decisive phase. Güemes, by contrast, could not hold their early lead and left Jujuy without a reward.
