Argentina's Under-17 futsal team defeated Peru 8-0 at the SUMA Complex in Luque and confirmed a perfect start to the South American championship. Santiago Basile's side settled the Group B second-round match and recorded their second successive victory.
The contest was effectively decided during the opening twenty minutes. Manuel Cabrera, Lorenzo Sampedro, Valentín Latrechiano, Santino Torres, Gian Soñer and Valentino Martínez, who scored twice, built the 7-0 advantage Argentina carried into half-time.
Sampedro struck again after the break to complete the scoring. The captain finished with a brace in a collective display that maintained its intensity even after the team had established a commanding lead in the first half.
The result follows the 5-0 opening win over Ecuador. Argentina have six points, thirteen goals scored and none conceded from their first two appearances, a return that places them firmly in contention for one of Group B's two semi-final places.
The campaign also carries the responsibility of defending the trophy. The Albiceleste won the 2022 and 2024 editions, beating Brazil in both finals, and lead a section that also contains Bolivia and the Brazilian side alongside Ecuador and Peru.
The squad will rest on Monday and return to competition against Bolivia at 2 p.m. on Wednesday. One day later, at the same time, Argentina will face Brazil in their final group match, with those two fixtures determining their position for the decisive stage.
