Racing de Córdoba beat San Miguel 1-0 at the Miguel Sancho stadium and returned to winning ways in round 24 of Group A in the Primera Nacional. Luciano Viano scored the only goal in a match that allowed La Academia to regain ground in the race for the promotion playoffs.
Gustavo Coleoni's team tried to take control from the start, but the first half ended goalless. Facundo Taborda had to leave the field after 42 minutes and Viano replaced him, an enforced change that would eventually alter the result.
The breakthrough came 21 minutes into the second half. Viano collected the ball inside the penalty area and beat Daniel Sappa with a left-footed strike. The midfielder, introduced before half-time, delivered the reward Racing needed to unlock a tight contest.
San Miguel attempted to respond by sending on Bruno Nasta, but Racing protected the lead. Brian Olivera produced a solid performance in the home goal and completed the clean sheet that secured three points against a direct mid-table rival.
The victory took La Academia to 30 points and tenth place in their group. After losing to Almirante Brown, the team returned to a three-point result and moved within only three points of the playoff positions, while San Miguel remained on 26.
Racing will play again in Nueva Italia against San Martín de San Juan at 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 16. San Miguel host Colegiales in the next round needing to end a winless run that has now reached four matches.
