Newcom +60 continues to expand across Chaco after being recognised by law as an official provincial sport. A new tournament round was held at the Jaime Zapata sports centre in Resistencia with teams arriving from different parts of the province.
The competition operates as a free league and brings together 30 teams divided into two categories. Six sides played during the latest round on the complex’s two courts, with a substantial part of the championship still ahead.
Newcom is an adapted form of volleyball designed mainly for older adults. The ball is caught and thrown rather than struck, allowing exercise, strategy, recreation and competition to be combined in an accessible format.
The activity is practised by men and women from their forties to over seventy in clubs, municipalities and community centres. Beyond physical benefits, it connects towns, strengthens camaraderie and creates sustained participation.
Chaco’s growth shows how sport can open new stages of life. Free organisation and institutional recognition turn newcom into a tool for wellbeing and integration, where competing also means meeting, sharing experiences and continuing to build a team.
